SELK Podcast will not have an episode this week so "Daniel" has agreed to review the week in audio form.
Weare United 4, Global 4
What a wonderful advert for adventurous flowing, top-flight football. The home team proved their worth by taking the game to their much-decorated visitors and pressing ahead and looking destined for a win. But back came Global and finally sealed a point courtesy of a Ryan Gardiner hat-trick and one from Melvyn Nketia.
This result gives both clubs a chance of claiming 3rd place in this fantastic competition which won’t be a bad achievement considering how all the teams have played an excellent part.
Barkingside face Weare United whilst Global will meet Newbury Forest with a 1 point advantage over Weare.
Hillford will be careful not to celebrate too early despite overtaking Loxford Lions at the top of the table. Courtesy of their narrow and hard fought 3-1 win at form team Newbury Forest Reserves they now head the division by a 3 goal margin, which means they really need one point to be certain of taking the title.
In the other game of this Division, Flamengo travelled to BSL, coming away with the points and a 4-1 win. With two games to go, todays visitors have the chance to climb the league to a more respectable position. As with many other clubs, this fragmented season has interrupted preparations and squad developments, so hats off to all those teams who carried on and decided to finish the campaign with those handicaps.
Next weekend, Flamengo will host Debden Sports whilst Hillford will entertain BSL hoping to grab that all important point.
The tension just didn’t let up when, arguably, the game of the day saw previously unbeaten SFN meet promotion chasing Horse & Well in Beckton. Have to say that the final result which saw the the visitors win a close one 2-1 and claim promotion saw their lads celebrate a fine achievement and delivering what nobody else has come close to doing all year. Well done to Jamie Clarke and his team, what a run you have put together. Very impressive indeed.
A Jason Kane hat-trick accounted for a defiant and unlucky Barking Colts as Cardinals Athletic edged a thriller at Barking Park. The result keeps the Cardinals just ahead of Hainault Athletic in the table and a fair return of 16 points on the season with a game to play.
This week Cardinals will meet the cock-a-hoop promoted Horse & Well whilst Hainault will need to be at their best to see off early season contenders Essex Minors, who found themselves overhauled in the final furlong of a tough season.
It looks as if Covid will cause the Sher Force vs SFN game to be in doubt, so watch social media for late updates on their progress.
