A fascinating competition has developed in Division Two as the runaway early leaders, Essex Minors, found themselves pegged back in their last outing, suffering defeat for the first time in eight games. Proof, if ever it was needed, that there is some serious competition at every level. That unexpected loss pulled them back into the range of the chasing pack, especially Horse & Well and SFN. Both these teams have had stellar starts to the campaign and have opened up the promotion race.
What is a good sign however, is that slightly further back, the chasing pack are proving to many that they have a serious say in who goes where. On the 13th December, nobody gave Cardinals a chance at EMH but they came away with that unlikely triumph. Sitting fourth, now they will have the confidence to push on while Belfry Reserves share the same points and no less desire to press for the podium places.
There’s quality though all the way down, each of the teams can point to a decent result or two along their respective journeys. Hainault Athletic proved their worth in a narrow loss at EMH in October but have found their scoring boots in the last three games. There’s a lot of promise there.
Beckton Gas won on their last outing and Sher Force will come back a much better prospect when football returns. Barking Colts just love to play football and maybe they’ll enjoy a slice of luck and take a win against expectations before too long.
