19/20 Premier Cup Semi-Final – BARKINGSIDE vs BELFRY

I am trying to be careful not to build this game up…..oh heck, failed miserably!! To me, this game is about passion and belief. I don’t think either team needs reminding of past encounters and that little bit of needle that makes for a good game. Passion runs deep in both sides and I am acutely aware of the vast array of talents on show and the abilities of both never to give up and fight to the end. Given the goalscoring exploits this season from the likes of Frankie Sinclair & Reece Simpson for the homesters and they will be keen to add to their records. But they have formidable opposition in Belfry who have their team in fine fettle, Luke MacDonald grabbing 3 so far with Sam Paterson & Jamie Redington a pair each. Therefore both teams have the belief that they can and will go out for the win. Let’s hope they leave the field together after, shake hands and know the best team won in the best way possible. The winners will play Weare United in the final at Barking FC on the 25th October.

20/21 Premier Cup – ESSEX MINORS (Hornchurch) vs FC LEYTONSTONE

An intriguing tie of massive proportions as the young developing talents of both teams take centre stage in the opening fixtures of this years prestigious competition. EMH have swept all before them so far but this is their first crack at a Senior Division team. Obviously, this what cup football is all about and the ability to test how far you have come as a unit against sides who regularly compete at the highest levels. In what promises to be a sensational encounter, we have the two leading scorers in the whole of the ESFC meeting on the pitch. Alex Bailey (EMH) has netted six while Ibrahim Khan (FCL) is no slouch, taking four already in just two games. Providing their teammates continue to supply the ammunition I expect both to be featuring in the stat column once again

20/21 Premier Cup – SHER FORCE vs CARDINALS ATHLETIC

Despite the fact that neither has won in Division Two so far, don’t let that little stat fool you. Both are highly capable of achieving big things in the game and the record books are proof of that. In this interesting encounter at Hainault Rec, both teams will be inspired to advance to the next stage and a glamour tie against reigning Senior champs & 2019 Premier Cup winners, Global. Who will be the standout from this tie? Tom Hedaux (CA) has two goals so far while Johann Aidoo is already off the mark in his only game for Sher Force so far.

Senior Division

JK SILVERTOWN vs WALTHAMSTOW RED STAR

League leading Red Star visit JK Silvertown who are opening their account. Be a massive statement for the hosts to peg back the Walthamstow boys and hit the ground running after an unlucky loss in a cup tie last weekend. Lads to look out for this weekend are Sivathasan & Sumithran (WRS) & Chris Wright (JKS). Each have two on the goal scoring charts so far.

NEWBURY FOREST vs GLOBAL

It’s fair to say this game will be fiercely contested in order to move away from the bottom of the table. Both teams will be smarting after failing to register a point so far although neither has been that far off the pace. Who’s going to be the standout performers when needed? Dan Ross & Christopher West will be looking to add to their combined six goals for Newbury Forest.

Division One

BSL vs NEWBURY FOREST RESERVES

Looking forward to my first visit to BSL and the next chapter of their debut season with the ESFC. After opening up with a loss & win, the chance to build on their recent victory will be tested in this encounter with Newbury Forest Reserves, who are playing their first league game. Plenty of lessons will have been learned from last week and I expect the visitors will be at the races time around.

HILLFORD vs RAINHAM WMC

The home team have started the season in sensational form, picking up from last season and proving the team to beat. Mark Newman has yet to concede a goal for Hillford and they’ll be confident going into the challenge against Rainham. Proof, if needed, that the visitors are capable came from the fact that they are proven goalscorers and that gives anyone a chance. Circumstances meant this journey was always going to be tough for the guys at Upminster Road this season and kudos for taking it on with a smile.

LOXFORD LIONS vs FLAMENGO

Despite losing heavily to the leaders last time out, Loxford aim to bounce back with a much better performance against Flamengo. Not that the task is made any easier against an outfit notoriously difficult to overcome. Those visitors are starting their campaign a little behind everyone else so maybe a little ring rust may give the home team a slight edge.

Division Two

BARKING COLTS vs BECKTON GAS

Although this is a match-up of the two sides holding the rest of the division up, it still promises to be a cracker of a game as both play the game for all the right reasons. The feel-good game of the day is one of those many of us should look at and respect the approach that the managers instil to the players and expect effort and smiles in return. Good luck to John Rice & Alan Boddy, it’s great to see.

BELFRY RESERVES vs HORSE & WELL

It’s safe to say that these two will be chomping at the bit to make a statement in this game. Sitting third and fourth in the table I am sure the likes of Brannsgrove & Cabey (Belfry) and Doctrove (H&W) will be looking to add to their double strikes so far. Belfry have a bit of depth and cursing their loss to Essex Minors and the visit of a team with a 100% record, albeit one game, will be all the motivation they need. if the visitors can grab some sort of consistency then they will have a major say in promotion this season such is their capability.

HAINAULT ATHLETIC vs SOMETHING FROM NOTHING

Neither team have lost so far so maybe someone’s doughnut has to go. Two very good returns from their games so far has instilled some belief at Damo’s HQ but the face-off with SFN will be the kind of challenge they thrive on. The home team will be calling on all their experience to thwart the recent free-scoring offence that bagged six last weekend in a cup tie. Alaka & Alberto (SFN) will be hoping their scoring boots are polished and ready for action as they take the trip to Hainault Rec this weekend
